I was just reading one of my favorite Dr. Seuss book, "Green Eggs and Ham".
This is so fun.
"I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I did not like them Sam I Am."
Oh, that's silly Sam I Am.
Don't you love this book, boys and girls?
Oh, I know.
I love the Dr. Seuss books.

I'm so glad that you're here to join me because boys and girls all this week I have my favorite books to share with you guys.
I know, I always say I share my favorite books but they really are, because I know that some of you guys just celebrated Read Across America and boys and girls, boy, do I miss going into classrooms and reading my favorite books So I bought all the books that I usually take with me into classrooms and I'm going to share them with you guys this week.
So come back all day, every day this week.
So you guys can get to see some of my favorite books.
Again, this is "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss, which is like great book too find that's right, rhyming words.
So check it out on Sora or at your County library.

We have a busy day and a busy week.
So let's get ready to learn to make our brain super strong and super smart.
Okay.
Your brain has been on, well it's been taking a rest all weekend so let's warm it up by playing a, you're right, my favorite mystery game.
To play this game I'm going to show you some sound spelling cards.
You are going to help say the sounds, blend the sound, and then I want you to try to write my mystery word and then we'll check to see how you spelled it.
But remember, these are all review sounds.
So these are sounds that we've already learned in second grade.
Okay.
Are you guys ready to warm up your brain?
Awesome, let's get started.
The first sound in my mystery word is the sun card and the sun card says (vocalizing).
Good job.
The next sound is the caramel card and the camel card says (vocalizing).
Good.
(vocalizing) That's right, it is a blend.
And the last sound is the chair card.
You guys remember what sound that makes?
(vocalizing air) Good job.
Okay, let's blend it together.
(vocalizing) Now faster.
(vocalizing) What is it?
"Scare".
Good job, boys and girls, "scare" like many kids are scare of the dark.
"Scare".
Let's check if you spelled it correctly.

How do we spell scare?
S C A R E, scare.
How did you do?
Thumbs up if you got it.
Good job.
I see all those thumbs up.

Okay.
Now let's go into our high frequency words.
Now remember high frequency words are those words that we need to know automatically without sounding them out because they show up, you're right, most frequently when we are reading and writing.
So it's really important to know how to read and write them.
Okay, all week we have 10 words every day we're going to focus on two.
So you read for the two that we're going to learn today?
Awesome.
So the first word is the word "head".
Help me read it, "head".
Good job.
Help me spell it.
H E A D, head.
Good job.
Okay, the next word "been".
Help me read it, "been".
Help me spell it.
B E E N, been.
Good job.
Now I have two sentences for you.
Help me try to figure out which one of these words will go into the sentence so that it will make sense.
Ready?
Let's do the first sentence.
"Our class has reading about animals."
Okay?
If you need to use those context clues to help you try to figure out which word will go in there.
Let's do the second sentence.
"Wear a hat to keep your warm."
Oh, I saw a clue there.
You're going to wear a hat.
Where do you wear your hat?
You're right, on your head.
Let's read it.
"Wear a hat to keep your head warm."
How did you do?
Awesome.
So that must mean been goes in the first sentence.
Let's read it.
"Our class has been reading about animals."
Did that make sense?
Awesome job, boys and girls.
So those are two focus high-frequency words but let's practice reading all the words that we're going to be reading this whole week.

Let's start with the two that we learned today.
Been, head, body, pretty, minutes, answer, heard, myself, pushed, and build.
So all week we're going to be practicing our high-frequency words.
Okay boys and girls.
Now, are you ready for our lesson of the day?
Awesome.
Remember we always start off with our, you're right, we're going to warm up and train our ears.
So because boys and girls remember you need to hear sound in order to read and write sounds.
Okay?
So we're going to start with a game called, "What's the new word?"
And this is working with our phoneme reversal and this is kind of fun.
So I'm going to say some sounds and then guess what?
We're going to go backwards and guess what?
It's going to make a new word.
Okay, are you guys ready?
Let's try this.
Ready?
Listen to the set of sound.
Ready?
(vocalizing) What's my word?
"Tack".
Good.
Now go backwards, remember?
What was my last sound?
(vocalizing) What's my new word?
"Cat".
Good job, awesome.
You guys are doing great.
Okay, let's try the next set of sounds.
Ready?
(vocalizing) What is it?
(vocalizing) "Gum".
Okay, now I go backward.
(vocalizing) What is it?
"Mug".
Good job.
Isn't that fun?
Okay.
One last set of sounds, ready?
(vocalizing) What is it?
"Make".
Okay, go backwards.
(vocalizing) What is it?
(vocalizing) "Came".
Great job boys and girls.
Training that ears.
Okay.
Let's go and practice our phonics instruction and learn our sound and spelling pattern of the week.
So this week, boys and girls we're going to be learning what we call our diphthongs.
Okay and this week we're going to be learning our cow card, and the cow card says "ow".
Can you say that with me?
"Ow", good job.
Just like when you get hurt, we say ow.
That's the same sound.
Can you say that again with me?
"Ow", that's it.
I know, it's one of my favorite sound, "ow".
Good.
Now, if you look at my cow card, boys and girls there are two different ways to spell that "ow" sound.
O W says "ow" and O U says "ow".
Did you see that?
Okay, now let's practice saying and spelling our sound spelling pattern for this week.
So ready?
O U says "ou", like in "house", house.
Good job.
O W says "ow", like in "cow".
Good job.
And don't forget, this is tricky.
We remember a couple or a long time ago we learned that long "o" and I said that O W can also say "o".
Well, guess what?
Now we know O W can say "o" and you can say "ow".
So if you're reading a word and it doesn't make sense change it, change the sound, so that it'll makes sense.
Or you will make a word and the word will make sense in the sentence.
Okay?
So if I have the word "house", right?
How would I spell the word mouse?
"House".
How would I spell that?
Good.
M OU, good.
Just like the O U, mouse.
And guess what?
It's the S E just like house.
And remember that E has such lots of different jobs but in this case, it's job, it is a silent E, it's not going to say anything.
It's job is just to make sure that the S is not by itself.
Because most of the time, when the S is at the end it's a plural noun.
"Mouse", house and mouse.
And guess what?
You're right.
They're rhyming words.
Good job, boys and girls.
Now let's go and practice reading some more words with the "ow" sound.
Okay?
I'm going to grab my finger here to help us.
Ready?
Now, the first row, or the first and second row, I put our spelling pattern in red to help us.
Remember two spelling pattern, one sound.
What's that one sound?
"Ow".
Good, let's practice.
Ready?
Out, how, clown, loud, wow, crowd, good, crowd, and town.
Good reading boys and girls.
Now, the next row in blue.
Those are our review words.
So let's just review the sounds and the spelling pattern that we've already learned.
Ready?

Let's do the sentence, ready?
"How did the brown mouse get out?"
How did you do boys and girls?
Awesome job.
You're right.
I saw "brown" had that "ow" and "mouse" and "out".
Good job.
Okay.
I'm going to give you a sentence.
Let's see if you guys can write my sentence.
Ready?
Okay.
The loud sound came from downtown.
Six words.
Ready?
You guys write it and then I'll write it, and we'll check.
First word, "the", "loud" has that "ou".
And it's actually the O U.
"The loud sound", another "ow" with the O U.
"The loud sound came from" these are our high frequency words, and "downtown" is a, you're right, compound word.
So spell "down" first and then spell "town".
And there's that "ow".
"Downtown", don't forget your period.
"The loud sound came from downtown."
