My name is Mrs. Vang.
I'm so excited to have you join me so that we can become amazing readers and writers.
Okay, It's my favorite time of the lesson where I share a book for you guys to read.
This is a book called, "The Other Side" by Jacqueline Woodson illustrations by E.B.
Lewis.
Now, in this book, boys and girls Clover, has always wondered why, there was a fence that separated, the town.
One day she sees another little girl named Annie, here's Annie over here, sitting on the fence.
And do you think Clover and Annie becomes friends even though they live on separate sides of town?
Oh, this is a book, all about being brave enough to make new friends.
If you want to read to see if Annie and Clover becomes friends, you can try to see if you can find this book at your County library or you can try to see if it's available on Sora.

Okay, so let's get started with training that ears, right?

We're gonna train our ears.
We're going to be listening for sounds 'cause we need to hear them before we can read and write them.
So we're going to start off with, a game called "Which One Doesn't Belong", and we are going to be working with a phoneme categorization.
So, I'm going to say, three words for you.
You're gonna listen.
One of the words doesn't have the same vowel sound.
You have to tell me which one doesn't belong.
Are you ready?
Okay, here are my first set of words.
Sure, there, corn.
Say it again.
Sure, there, corn, which one doesn't belong?
Good, there, 'cause sure has or, corn has or.
Good job.
Okay.
Here's my second set of words, ready?
Bird, heard, fair.
Say it again.
Bird, heard, fair.
Which one doesn't have the same vowel sound?
Good job.
Fair, fair says air, bird says ear.
Heard says ear, good job.
Okay, last set of words you guys are doing so good.
Okay.
Stain, boat, male.
Say it again.
Stain, boat, male.
Oh, that was easy, Good job.
Boat says O, but stain says A, male says A, good job.
Listening, boys and girls.
Okay, now let's go into our phonics lessons of the week.
Remember, all week we're learning the, air sound, good job.
Can you say that with me?

Good, and we're gonna use our chair card to help us with our air sound.
Now the air sound is spelled four different ways.
You guys see that on the chart four different ways to spell that air sound.
That's where it becomes tricky boys and girls.
There are four different ways and there are some that have the same spelling but we learned last week has a different sound.
So, practice with me.
I want us to say the sound and spell it together, ready?
Air A-I-R says, air, good, are.
A-R-E says, are.
And don't forget when you read or spell all of those letters go together.
Ear E-A-R says, ear.
Good.
And ere, E-R-E says, ere.
Good job, boys and girls.
Okay.
Now, let's, blend some letters together, ready?
Okay, do you guys see my letters here?

Beginning blend.

Here's my, spelling pattern for the week.

Now remember the tricky things about these spelling pattern, again, are there lots of homophones, homophones are words that sound the same but spell differently.
There is another type of hare, that's like a rabbit, but it's spelled differently.
Okay boys and girls, let's build a word together, ready?

Where, help me spell it.
That wh wh is what sound?
That's W H, good that's a diagraph.
Wh, ere, now, which air spelling, do I use?
Let's try this one.
A-I-R whair, does that look right?
No.
Whair, how about the E-A-R?
Whear.
Nope, that doesn't look right.
How about, the E-R-E, where?
Good job, where is spelled W-H-E-R-E, where.
Good job, boys and girls.
Okay.
Now, let's practice some more reading with words with the air spelling pattern.

Okay, I have three rows of words for us today.
So let's practice reading, wear, dare, share, fair, square, good.
Hair, spare, chair, stare, and there.
Good reading.
Okay, lets practice reading these words in a sentence.
We saw a rare pair of hares at the fair.
Ooh.
Did you see all those words?
Good, rare, pair, and here's that hare.
Remember, when we read it earlier It was H-A-I-R. And that was the hair on our head.
This is the hare, like a rabbit, hare.
What do we call those?
Homophones.
You're right.
And at the fair.
Okay.
Now let's quickly get into our sentence dictation.
Let's see if you guys can write my sentence.
Here's my sentence, ready?
The chair is by the stairs.
How many words is that?
Six, good.
The chair is by the stairs.
Ready?
First word, the, good, don't forget to put that capital H. The chair, ch and there's that air A-I-R, the chair is, by the stairs.

There's that st and air, is A-I-R good, stairs.
There you go.

So all week we're gonna continue learning the "air" sound.
Now, let's continue and learn some high frequency words.

We are learning 10 high-frequency words every day.
We're going to focus on two.
So, today we're gonna focus on the words, among and upon, ready?

Okay, which one goes where?
Let's see, Carlos place the cake upon, good job.
I hear you, upon the table.
So that must mean, there is one oak tree growing among the pine tree.
Or the pine trees.

Let's practicing reading these words.
All of the words starting with the ones we learned today, ready?
Upon, among, touch, bought, never, knew, soon, sorry, talk, and once.
Good job boys and girls.
Okay, now let's go into our structural analysis.
And this week, boys and girls, we're gonna learn the R controlled vowel syllables because we're still learning about our R control vowel spelling pattern.
Like air is a spelling is R control vowel.
And boys and girls, today we're gonna learn that when we see them in a word we need to keep our spelling patterns together.
And when we break words apart it'll help us read and, or write.
So here's my first word.
You see my word, haircut.
Okay, I see that R control.
Here's my A-I-R.
I'm going to keep it together.
So if I was to divide this 'cause hair cut, did you hear that?
Two syllables.
I would divide it right here.
Hair cut.
And actually hair cut is also a compound word, so that's where we would divide it.
Hair cut.
Now let's look at the next word, fairly, say with me, fairly, did you notice something?
Here's my R control vowel spelling pattern.
And remember the rule, we, you're right.
We keep them together.
So if this word, if I was trying to spell fairly I know fairly has two syllables.
I would say the first part fair and then write the next part ly because fairly is divided like that, fairly.
How did you do?
Good, boys and girls.
Okay, last one.
Airport, airport, good job, divide between the air and the port and chair?
One syllable, do not divide it.
Good job, boys and girls.
Okay, you guys did such a good job.
