My name is Mrs. Vang and so excited to have you join me so that we can become amazing readers and writers.
So starting with becoming an amazing reader I have another book to share with you guys.
This is a biography on Jackie Robinson.
Remember all week, we have been learning about African-Americans for our black history month celebration.
And remember, a biography is a story about someone's life.
Now, did you know that Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play Major League Ball?
Did you know that?
It happened in 1947, doesn't seem like it was that important, but boys and girls he was the first African-American Major League Baseball player and he paved the way for so many other more baseball players.
So if you wanna read more about Jackie Robinson you can try to see if you can find this book Jackie Robinson strong inside and out at on Sora or at your County library.
Now, speaking of Sora let's see which schools came in and our top countdown.
So we have the number one and two slots.
So we're gonna go and see which school came in in number two today.
Coming in and number two is Wilson.
Awesome job, Wilson Wild Cats, you guys are doing a great job.
Checking out those books on Sora and reading to make your brain super strong and smart.
Awesome job.
Now, boys and girls, don't forget I will love to hear where you guys are reading or learning.
So make sure that you are writing to me here at the studio, use the address that you see below and tell me everything that you're learning or reading.
Don't forget, you can also email me your letters and boys and girls once I get your letters I will send you one of these, awesome activity books.
So don't forget to leave or write your address so I can send these to you.
Okay, boys and girls, are you guys ready to get started?
Awesome job.
We'll start off with our listening skills, good job.
So turn your listening ears up so that we can be listening for those sounds.
We're gonna do more of them, full names substitution.
Now later, earlier in the week we use those red and yellow dots.
I'm gonna see if you guys can do that without using those dots.
So I'm gonna say a word.
We're gonna segment the word.
I'm gonna change it, we're gonna substitute it for another sound and let's see if you guys can guess my new word.
Ready okay.
Let's get started.
Ready, my first word is the word "More".
Say with me "More" good.
segment it if you need to "mmm", "ore", More, good.
Change that "mmm" onto "shh" what's my new word now.
Good job.
Sure, Awesome job.
Sure.
How about the next set of sounds, ready?
What if I said the word, "Card".
Say it with me "Card" segmented "C", "ard", Card.
Good job changed that "C" now to a "Y".
Y, what's my new word "Y", "Ard".
What's my new word "Yard".
Good job, boys and girls Yard.
Okay last set of sounds, ready.
Say the word park, park.
Segment it with me, "P", "ark", Park.
Okay substitute that "P" for a "Sh".
What is it, "Sh", "ark" Shark.
Good job, boys and girls.
You guys are getting really good at that game.
Now let's go into our focus on the week.
And if you were using your listening ears you would know that we were focused on the "ore", and the "ar" sound did you hear all of that when we were practicing that listening skills, good job.
So all week we have been learning two vowel sounds and they're actually, what we call Our Control Vowel sounds.
We're learning the "ore" sound and the "ar" sound.
And if you look at my corn card, we'll notice that "ore" has, let's see three different spellings.
Did you know that, one sound three ways to spell it.
So let's go on read and we'll not read, we'll say again spell it together so that our brain can remember, ready.
O-R says, Or.
O-A-R says, Oar.
O-R-E says, Ore, good job.
They all say or.
It gets really tricky when you're trying to spell it.
But to read it, just to remember all of these letters O-A-R and the O-R-E, they all make one sound.
And we're also learning the "ar" control.
Vowel sound of "ar" and "ar" only has one spelling, A-R says, "ar".
So when you're reading or spelling, if you come across that "ar" make sure you're saying ar, if you're spelling it make sure you're spelling with the A-R.
So let's practice blending some letters together.
Ready, let's look at my first set of letters.
Now, if you notice there's an AR, but guess what?
The Y is red, because the Y, remember kids sometimes make that vowel sound.
So let's see if we can blend these letters together, ready?
P-art, part, and the Y makes the E sound.
Did you know that?
So let's put it together.
P-art, E what's my word, "Party".
Good job, boys and girls.
And if you notice party or party two syllables, good.
Because there are two vowels, good thinking boys and girls.
Let's look at the next set of letters.
Help me blend those together, ready, SC are blends, Ssc.
And O-R-E says, "ore" blend it together "Ssc, ore".
What's my word "Score", good job.
Now let's practice building a word.
What if I wanted to spell the word March, March, help me segment it.
Mmm, arch, March okay help me spell it.
First sound was "mm", good, that's an M "ar" is the AR, good and March.
What sound do you here, CH, good job.
March, awesome job, boys and girls.
Now, today, I have a story for you guys to read before we read our story, let's quickly go over our fluency 'cause as you reading boys and girls we need to practice our fluency.
So when we're reading we wanna make sure that we're reading each word correctly.
We'll work on our accuracy or work in our rate making sure we're not going fast or too slow.
Working on our expression that is reading with feelings.
And so that we don't sound like a robot and if you pay attention to your punctuation that's going to help you.
So today I have a story called Just For Fun.
Let's see if you can see or find some of my art control vowel patterns.
Ready let's read it together.
"Just for fun.
Kids born in India, do many things for fun.
They are like kids all over the world.
These kids are playing ball together.
They don't have a grassy place or a park to play.
They play outside on the stone street Kids throw and try to hit the ball to score.
Kids in India like to have even more fun and fly kites from the top of large buildings.
Kites soar in the blue sky.
The kites are painted in bright colors.
Flying kites is the the big sport in India, kids try to get the kites to stay up the longest and highest.
Kids respect the best kite flyer.
Kids like Holi.
This is a day when people party in the streets.
This mom is tossing Powder as her kids pass by.
The powder sticks to shirts, shorts, faces and skirts.
Everyone gets color all over them.
The kids can pretend that they are like moving art."
Did you find any words art there, spelling pattern focus this week, I found lots of them, helped me read it.
Ready, for, sport, shorts, born, score, soar.
And then my R sound that was art, party, and park.
And did you notice there was three high frequency words in there, helped me read it.
People, outside and everyone.
Good reading boys and girls.
Now let's go and practice our high-frequency words.
As you notice, high frequency words are important to learn because they show up most frequently when we are reading and or writing.
All week we have 10 words, everyday we've been focused on two.
So help me read and spell the two that we're going to be learning today.
Ready, our words are problem and ago, good.
Help me read the first word again, Problem.
Spell it with me.
P-R-O-B-L-E-M.
Problem, good job.
Next word, Ago.
Help me spell it.
A-G-O, Ago, good job Now help me read my two sentences and try to figure out which one of these words will go into my sentence that all makes sense.
Ready, help me be the first sentence.
It says, Kip has a big mmh.
Use those sentence clues to see if you can figure it out.
Let's do the second sentence.
Max had a birthday five days mmh.
Oh, there was some clue there.
He had, that means it happened in the past, a birthday five days, ago makes sense.
You're right.
Good job, Max had a birthday five days ago.
That must mean Kip has a big problem.
Good job, I hear you, boys and girls.
He has a big problem.
Awesome job, let's practice reading all of our high-frequency words.
and we'll start with the two that we learned today.
Ready, problem, ago, certain, everyone, heavy, people, together, carry outside and warm.
Awesome job, boys and girls.
Okay, let's go and learn our nonstructural analysis.
And this week we've been working on irregular plurals.
Remember, plural nouns just means more than one.
Irregular means they have different rules to them.
Like we learn that sometimes the word change completely.
We can't just add an S and sometimes they just stay the same.
So I'm having a sentence for you.
And I want you to help me pick which irregular plural noun will makes sense in my sentence.
Are you ready?
Here's my sentence.
The mmmh attacked my mmh.
So I have two nouns for us.
So the Gooses or geese, which word is written correctly.
If there's more than one goose remember we call that a geese.
You're right we don't just add an S to it.
So the geese attacked my, now did attack my feet or my foots.
More than one, we don't say foots.
You're right, we say feet.
Good job, so let's read my sentence.
The geese attacked my feet.
Good job.
And remember these rules.
These two rules means that the word changes completely.
Awesome job today, boys and girls, you guys are doing such a good job learning along to make that brain super strong and smart.
So I'm gonna leave you with our quote of the day.
And today it comes from Simone Biles.
Who's a Olympic gymnast, and she says, practice creates confidence.
Confidence empowers you.
So boys and girls, if you can't do something yet what do you need to do?
Keep practicing, so the more you practice the better you'll get at it.
Boys and girls I hope you come back and join me tomorrow 'cause I have another fun story for us to read.
Have a great day, I'll see you tomorrow.
Bye-bye.
