Good morning, how are you?
Awesome.
Oh my goodness, I was just reading another book that my daughter recommended for us to read.
Have you read this book?
This is called "Narwhal, Unicorn of The Sea."
It is such a fun book about Narwhal, who's a happy-go-lucky guy and about his friend Jelly, who's more of a nonsense kind of guy and their adventures.
Cause guess what, they don't have a lot in common, but they do have great adventures together.
So if you, will like to read more about Narwhal, make sure you are checking it out at your county library, or seeing if you can find this book on the Sora app.
I was just reading these pages so funny look at it so if you would like it to be more like a comic book or those graphic novels, that's what it's really good for.
I just love this book boys and girls.
Okay, so let's check to see which school came in our top Sora checkouts.
Are you ready?
Okay, let's see.
So today, we're gonna try to see which school came in number four.
Let's see who is it.
Jackson.
Good job Jackson Elementary.
You guys are doing an awesome job checking out those books on Sora and reading, cause remember, the more we read the stronger we make our brain, you're right.
So awesome job, you guys are making your brains so strong, way to go.
Now don't forget to get on to our list.
Make sure that you're checking all those books on Sora or if you don't have the Sora app, make sure that you have that app downloaded, so that you can be checking out books.
Okay boys and girls, now I haven't gotten any letters yet boys and girls, and I can't wait to read letters from you guys cause I wanna know what you guys are reading.
So, make sure you guys are writing to me and tell me what you're learning or what you're reading, and I will send you one of these fun activity books, okay?
So, use the address you see below, and guess what?
You can also email me what you are learning or what books you are reading, and I will send you one of these fun activity books, okay?
But just remember to put your home address so that I can, send these to you.
Okay boys and girls.
Now, are you ready to get started with our lesson for today?
Awesome job.
And you know, we're gonna start off with, that's right, with our listening with our listening skills.
So turn up the listening ears cause (mumbles) we need to be able to first hear sounds, to be able to read sounds, so that we can, write sounds right?
Okay.
So today we are going to be practicing some phoneme substitution, okay?
This is where I'm gonna say a word, we're gonna substitute is the sound, and we're gonna make a new word.
So we're gonna play a game called, what's my new word.
Are you guys ready?
Okay, let's see if you guys can do this all just by listening, okay?
Okay, my first word is joy.
Say it, joy.
Okay, now change the j to a t. What's my new word?
Toy, good job.
Awesome, I heard you.
You guys got this.
Okay, next word ready?
Say the word choice.
If you need to blend it up, do it, choice.
Okay, ch-oi-ce, choice.
Okay, now change that ch ch ch to a v. Hey, what's my new word now?
V-oice.
What is it?
Voice, good job, boys and girls.
That was a trickier one.
Okay, last one, ready?
What if I said soil.
Soil.
(mumbles) if you need to s-oi-l, soil.
Good, now change that s to a c. Now what's my new word?
C-oi-l. What is it?
Coil, good job.
How did you do?
Thumbs up, I see you.
Good job boys and girls.
Okay, now let's go into our phonics instruction for the week.
Now, if you were listening, what sound?
what vowel sound did you hear?
Good, the oi sound.
So this week, we are focusing on the oi sound which is what we call a diphthong.
So that's why I have my boy card here for us to help us.
Now, if you look at my card, we say the sound oi one sound, but two different spelling.
So say it with me.
O-I says oi.
And remember, oi which is spelled with the O-I, usually occurs in words in the middle or in the beginning.
The -oy says -oy.
Say that again with me.
O-Y says -oy, good.
And see that line in front of it?
That means (mumbles) that the -oy usually, or most of the time comes at the end of a word.
So if you are writing and you hear that -oy in the beginning or middle, you'll spell with the O-I.
If you hear the -oy at the end of a word, you'll spell with the O-I, okay?
Now, I have some letters here for you.
Help me, blend them together ready?
Remember that O-I says oi, so let's blend it.
You're right.
Good you see the ending blend, good.
Okay, ready?
M-oi-st. What's my word?
Moist.
Good job, moist.
And did you know that my friend can make a very moist cake?
Oh, they're so yummy, right?
Awesome.
Okay, let's continue.
Let's look at the next set of letters.
What do you see?
Guess what I see?
I see the a which is a vowel, you're right, and my -oy at the end.
So guess what, remember we said that a lot of the words, every time there's a vowel sound, there's more than one syllable.
So if I really wanted to read this, I can see that there's two double constant in here, I know that I can divide between the two consonant, and if I wanted to sound out the words I can split them into syllables cause when you break them up into syllables, it will help you sound out or blend words together.
So if I look at this I can say, a, and that's a tricky one I'm saying a even though I told you it says aa it's that what we call the schwa sound cause a can say aa an, and then this is n-oy.
Put it together, it's annoy.
Good job, annoy.
And this is a word I hear in our household all the time cause my daughter always says that her brother likes to annoy her.
I know you too, I know brothers, good job, boys and girls.
Okay, let's quickly build a word, ready?
Let's see if we can build a word voice.
You're right it was a word that we spelled, that we spelled yesterday in our sentence dictation do you guys remember?
Let's segment it.
The first sound is v, which is the v, good job.
Next sound is the oi now it's in the middle.
Am I gonna use the oi or the oy?
Oi good job it's in the middle so am gonna use the oi voice.
And there is that trickier one remember, it wasn't the S but it was the C-E and we call that the soft C sound.
Good job, boys and girls.
Voice that e doesn't make it sound, but it just tells the c to make the soft C which is the ce voice.
Good reading boys and girls.
Now, let's practice reading some words with the oi sound.
Are you ready?
Okay, ready?
Go coin, soy, foil, joint.
Good did you just notice I mixed them all up for you guys today?
Keep going noise, ploy, voice, there's that word voice and Roy.
Do you know why there's a capital letter here?
You're right, it's a proper noun, it's someone's name, good thinking.
Okay, let's keep going join, royal, moist and boil.
Good reading.
Let's read the sentence now.
Wrap the sandwich in foil so it won't spoil.
How did you do?
Awesome job boys and girls.
Now, what words did you see in our sentence that had the oi sound.
Good, there was foil and spoil.
Good job.
Okay, let's quickly write our sentence.
Ready?
I've a short sentence for us today.
Here's my sentence, I found coins in a toy.
Six words that's my sentence, I found coins in a toy.
Okay, let's quickly write it ready?
I found, that has ou remember we learned that last week, what says it?
O-U good job, I found coins.
Good, don't forget that S means, more than one good.
I found coins in?
Good, a toy has the -oy at the end so it's spelled with the O, why did you put your period?
Awesome job boys and girls you guys are doing such an awesome job.
Now let's go and practice our high frequency words.
So remember high frequency words show up most often when we are reading, so it's important to know how to read and write them automatically.
Ready?
Today, we have two words that we're gonna focus on.
Okay, help me read and spell them.
Ready?
first word, please.
Let's read it again, please good job.
Spell it P-L-E-A-S-E please.
Next word, busy.
Help me read it busy.
Help me spell it B-U-S-Y busy good job.
Now I have two sentences for us.
Let's read it and see which one of these words will go into my sentences so it'll make sense.
Ready?
First sentence, the store is very (mumbles) today.
Next sentence, will you (mumbles) tell them to wait for me?
Oh you're using your context close, good.
The store is very what?
Busy, I hear you good job.
The store is very busy today.
Next sentence, will you that's right please tell them to wait for me?
Good job that does make sense.
Now remember, if one of these words is hard for you make sure you write them down and that you're practicing, reading and writing them.
Okay, now let's go into our structure analysis.
So this week we are gonna be on focusing consonant plus the le, el and al and they all make the same sound they all say ole, syllables.
So I'm gonna be showing you the rules of the syllables which is when a word ends with the le, el or al the consonant before plus the letters le, el or al form the last syllable.
So pretty much, let's look at the first word.
You see here there's the le, the consonant goes with it.
We make that the last syllable, now that I have it separated into syllables now I can read it.
The first word is can, the next word is dle, what's my word?
candle.
Just like that you see that?
If I see a word, I don't know how to read, I see the el, I know I put the consonant with it, I split it.
Now I can read can, cel.
Don't get tricked that ce is the same as the s sound.
Did you see how that works?
Good job how about the last one?
Split it with the consonant fi and long vowel final.
How did you do?
Awesome job boys and girls we'll continue practicing how to divide words into syllables to read.
You guys are doing such an awesome job and don't forget to come back tomorrow so that we can continue our learning, so that you can become amazing readers and writers.
Hope you have a good day learning today, and I can't wait to get your letters.
Bye bye.
