Despite continued opposition, the California High Speed Rail begins construction.

Gov. Jerry Brown came to Fresno to mark the start of construction for the CA High Speed Rail. The controversial project will be built in phases. The first is from Merced to Fresno. Supporters, including Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin attended the invitation only event. Some opponents, including a developer, whose planned business park in Madera is effected by the bullet train, protested outside.
